Playground Review: Jim Holm Park, Granite Falls, WA

Jim Holm Park in Granite Falls, WA appears to be the only playground in the city. Granite Falls is a pretty small town, so that is probably to be expected, but it was a bit disappointing as far as parks for littles are concerned. The terrain to access the play area was not at all stroller-friendly, and the area labeled as suitable for 2- to 5-year-olds really wasn’t. I was surprised to find a fire-pole style ladder on one side, and slides with a very large drop-off on another. I really did not feel comfortable letting my almost-2-year-old play on any of it. Even a 4-year-old would make me nervous on this tiny (but I’m guessing expensive) piece of equipment. It makes me wonder how the Playworld Systems catalogue had it listed. Anyway…

The Big Kids area, designed for children ages 5 to 12, was much more appealing and age-appropriate. I would highly recommend this spot for all the big kids I know. The rock climbing wall was an especially nice feature (see top image).

I did not see any restrooms available here, or drinking fountains, but they did have a nice covered picnic area, as well as a large grassy field for game play, and a basketball court.
